Kids Safety 101

Non-Toxic Alternatives to Pest Problems

Pest Control and kids’ safety sounds like an oxymoron! However, there are many safe ways to get rid of the creepy crawlies while avoiding poisons.

Here are some natural, non-toxic ways to control household insect pests.

Number one on any list should be Diatomaceous Earth. It is inexpensive and it will only hurt the pests, not your kids or your pets. Diatomaceous Earth is made from the fossilized remains of tiny aquatic organisms called Diatoms and their skeleton is made up of a natural substance called silica, so basically the creepy crawlies get it into their systems and it literally dries them out.

Other known natural pest control depending on what type of pests are: Cucumber, mint and soapy water will help with ants; garlic, catnip and soapy water for roaches; fleabane is perfect for fleas in your yard; citronella, sage, rosemary and marigolds for mosquito; and lemongrass for bats.

Kids’ safety is always the number one priority, and one way to keep your child safe is to limit the amount of poison in the household. With today’s technology, it is easier than ever to find the information needed to take care of pests in an environmentally responsible way.
