New Year’s Resolutions for Families and Kids

Making household resolutions can help everyone stay on track in the New Year. They can even be fun while helping your kids grow, be healthy and stay safe.

Get the kids involved in the resolutions this year and set goals that you can all reach together. Here are some ideas for kids and families to start the new year off right.

Spend Time Unplugged

With the vast array of electronics available for both work and play, screens have taken over a lot of family time. Resolve to spend less time watching TV, checking emails, playing video games and being glued to your cellphones.

Set aside at least one day a week or month without your electronics. You can use this time to spend quality family time by enjoying the outdoors, playing board games together or doing anything else that doesn’t require a plug.

Health Matters

Part of keeping your kids safe means keeping them healthy. Commit to eating healthy meals and developing better dietary habits in the New Year. Get the kids involved in meal planning and teach them about healthy food choices. Even if the whole family is at a healthy weight, developing good eating habits when kids are younger can help them maintain a healthy diet their entire lives.

You should also make time in the New Year to exercise as a family. Whether you spend time each day taking the family dog on a walk, a bike ride or playing physically active games together, exercising together will promote a healthy lifestyle for the entire family.

Go Green Together

Teach your kids about giving back not only to others, but also to the environment. Set goals to do more of both–or you can even combine them for twice the benefits to your family. For instance, you could start taking your cans to a recycling center and using that money to donate to a worthy cause.

Make getting healthy and going green fun for the whole family while making a lasting impact on your children by making this year’s resolutions together.
